This post has been going randomly crazy of late (HI EVERYONE GAH), so I figured I’d let you all know that Isabela and Aveline are still off having lots of shenanigans. YOU PUT THAT BACK IZZY (Aveline totally looks like she’s about to spank Isabela with her sword. Someone does need a spanking, after all….)

Sa and I don’t really act like this when we hang out. Okay maybe a little. There was that awesome bumper car showdown….

All Photos: Isabela and Aveline’s Day Off

Aww, I didn’t know you hadn’t already posted all of the photos! I think the silliest ones are always my favorites.

And, no, we’re quite civil with each other and commiserate over art history things. Except for that epic bumper car showdown (next time we should have BUMPER BOATS).

PS if you’re updating your Isabela, you know my armor is literally just down the street.

For the midnight premiere of Iron Man 3, I put together a Pepper Potts costume based on the white suit I’d seen her wearing in previews. I found some bangs that I wrangled with a few attempts at dying before they matched my natural haircolor. I was inspired after reading some posts on the RPF and seeing Robert & Jaime’s method for making a Starkpad, so I decided to make one of my own.

I used a knockoff light wedge (book light) and took a combination of interface designs form the movies with some Iron Man-inspired themes to create the design. All of the surface detail is drawn/scratched in using an x-acto knife.

All of the excited energy I channeled into making things was more than warranted - Iron Man 3 is outstanding!

hey sa! I'm thinking about making an omni tool for prime, what did you use to cut and shape yours? I'm going to TAP and looking at the orange acrylic but have no idea how to cut and piece it together.
regeener ASKED

Heya Geener! I got the plastic I used for my omniblade at TAP, so I imagine the material you’re looking at is probably the same as what I used.

I had hoped to get my omniblade laser cut in order to achieve MAXIMUM PRECISION, but had a pretty crappy time trying to coordinate with almost every local shop that does custom laser cutting. TAP was a bit of a letdown on that, too, and I encountered nothing but confusing runarounds when trying to go through them for laser-cutting coordination.

SO, in the interest of time and money, I decided to just do it myself. In the wee hours of Saturday morning of PAX Prime last year, I rush-attacked the plastic with my dremel, heatgun, and give-em-hell attitude. And lo, Gimpy the Omniblade was born!

Armormaking FAQ!

I’ve been asked on multiple occasions what my methods and materials are, so this post is a compilation of what I hope shall be the most helpful information for anyone curious. This is not a tutorial so much as what I’ve found works best for me. Behind the cut, there be many pictures and words!

PAX Prime 2011 - Aveline Vallen from Dragon Age II

I’ve never posted these here, but they’re some of my favorite photos from PAX Prime, where I wore my Aveline armor for the first time. Guest starring Molly’s fabulous Sassy Gay Hawke and Brutha as Bethany Hawke. Also featuring one of Wil Wheaton’s majestic dickcapes.

I was planning on cosplaying Aveline next year for PAXEast (Lothering outfit) and I was wondering if you have any tips/pointers for making her sword and shield? Or recommended fabrics or patterns for her Lothering gear? There are sadly not very much Aveline cosplay love that I can find on the interwebs. =(

Yay, awesome plan! I tend to try and go as budget-friendly as possible when making costumes, so depending on what your cost range is, there are a number of ways you could go about making everything.

In my anticipation for Dragon Age 2’s release, I decided I wanted to make an Aveline costume in time for release day after having seen her in the demo and immediately loving the character. One of my Marines who was also excited for the game’s release took these photos outside our barracks right after I got my copy of the game.

I’ve since improved some parts of it (like the bracelets, which I had been using a piece of metal I bent into an approximate shape in these shots) but haven’t actually worn it again. Perhaps someday!

Thank you so very much! That’s an amazing compliment, Anon, and I truly appreciate your high esteem. I love her character, and it means a great deal that you think I do her justice. Thank you.
